Mary Shelley wrote at least two short stories based on this kind of imaginary time travel (not unlike that of her friend Washington Irving): "Roger Dodsworth: The Reanimated Englishman," and "Valerius: The Reanimated Roman." She may also have written "Rome in the First and the Nineteenth Centuries."
