Joachim Murat (1767-1815) was king of Naples from 1808 to 1815. He fought in Napoleon's Egyptian campaign and was part of the 1799 coup d'etat of 18 Brumaire. (He was married to Napoleon's sister, Caroline.) In 1814 he struck a bargain with Austria, but later returned to the French side; while attempting to return to Naples after the fall of Napoleon, he was captured and executed.
