2017. Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, 14 January 1812 *

Dear Grosvenor

Your provoking Phillidor [1]  after having long annoyed me by being everlastingly in the way, has contrived to get out of the way once more just when I had an opportunity of getting rid of him.

Mrs C., in her unhappy condi state, frequently abuses you, & when I ask her what she has to say to you where I write, desires me to give her hate. Notwithstanding which odious message, the said personage troubles you with a letter pro posto two-pennyano. [2]

RS.

Jany 14. 1812.
