Item Description:

Even though P. Chandra has described this image as a representation of the Mewar school, its subject matterEuropean facesmakes it a unique type of Mewar painting that resembles Company-style images. Furthermore, the faces of the European figures seem to be purposefully rendered with the Mughal physiognomy as typically represented in Indian art. Consequently, this image exemplifies the complex interactions between the metropole and the colony during the Romantic period that resulted in hybrid art forms.
