Michele Speitz

Michele Speitz is Associate Professor of English at Furman University. She specializes in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature, with particular interests in Romanticism, aesthetics, poetics, ecocriticism, sound studies, and science and technology studies. Dr. Speitz has been the recipient of the Trent R. Dames Fellowship in the History of Civil Engineering from The Huntington Library’s Munger Research Center as well as additional residential fellowships at the Huntington Library and the National Center for the Humanities. Her work has appeared in or is forthcoming from Studies in RomanticismSEL Studies in English Literature: 1500-1900: Restoration and Eighteenth CenturyRomantic Circles Praxis SeriesEssays in Romanticism,European Romantic Review, and The Keats-Shelley Review. She is currently developing a monograph entitled Technologies of the Sublime and The Mechanical Supernatural.
