Dames Fellowship in the History of Civil Engineering at the Huntington Library's Munger Research Center. Her current book project, Technologies of the Sublime, revises the notion that Romantic-era science recasts the mechanical universe of the Enlightenment in terms of organic life, suggesting instead that Romanticism did not cancel out the mechanical vitality of the earlier model but rather rechanneled it as an unrecognized aspect of the sublime.
