Assignment 1: Website Evaluation

A Romantic Circles High School Curriculum Module

The purpose of this assignment is to help you become more familiar with the Villa Diodati and to give you some practice using the World Wide Web as an information source and evaluating Web resources. To successfully complete this assignment you must complete each of the items listed below:

  1. Review the Romantic Circles High School Guide to Evaluating Web Resources.
  2. Visit The Blake Archive and review the site according to the Guide to Evaluating Web Resources by answering each of the Guide's 11 questions in writing using a word processor.
  3. Visit the "Romantics" section of the Voice of the Shuttle Web page for Humanities Research at http://vos.ucsb.edu/shuttle/eng-rom.html and pick one of the other Websites listed under the "General Resources" section for William Blake and review it according to the directions above in #2.
  4. Login to the Villa Diodati and create a MOO Note object, giving it the name of your first name, plus the first letter of your last name, plus the assignment number separated by a dash so that your teacher can identify it as yours. (John Simith = JohnS-1.) Place your two reviews in the "Note Text" area of the note. Be sure to include the title and URL of the second resource that you are reviewing on the note.
  5. Once you have created your note, go to your teacher's classroom in the Villa and put your note into the appropriate box in the Assignment 1 room. (Type "put <note name> in Assignments".) You are done with the assignment when the computer tells you that you have put your note into the Assignment Box.

If you have questions or problems completing this assignment, you should first visit the Notebuilding Help Page. If, after carefully reviewing this page, you are still having problems, you should click on the "Who" button in the top frame of the Villa Diodati Browser window. This will open a new window and provide you with a list of other students and teachers who are logged-in. Pick somebody from the list and click on their location to transport to that location and ask them for help. The MOO is a community of learners who are there to help each other, and you should never hesitate to ask a fellow MOO community member for help, whether you know them or not. Likewise, you should be willing to lend a helping hand to your fellow MOOers when they are in need.

If you can't find anyone to help you in the MOO, you can type "help" in the telnet window of the MOO interface at any time to view a help menue. Help is also available at any time by clicking on the "Help" button in the top frame of the MOO Browser window.

If you aren't able to find the help that you need using one of the above methods, you can send a help request directly to your teacher or to the MOO adminstrator via e-mail at cstahmer@rc.umd.edu. Good luck and happy MOOing.
