Imagined landscapes in British Romantic Poetry
Welcome to Poems and Places, Homepage of the Romantic Literature unit for Mr. Martin's English 12 classes at Torrey Pines High School. This page contains links to the unit syllabi for all three of Mr. Martin's English 12 sections, to on-line editions of all the prose and poetry covered in the unit, and to a range of contextual information for students working on the unit. Visitors from other schools who are interested in implementing this curriculum unit should visit the "Curriculum Modules" area of Romantic Circles High School for information about the unit and its implementation.
The purpose of this unit is to provide you with a general knowledge of British Romantic Era poetry and to help you hone your knowledge of poetic form and structure. The unit makes substantial use of the internet both as an information resource and as a space for students to compose and post their assigned work. On the first day of the unit, each of you will be assinged an access account to the Villa Diodati, an on-line virtual world, where you will find a specially built classroom area just for our use. In addition to the information on this page, you will find a great deal of important and useful information in the virtual classroom. Because on-line resources and activities play such an important role in the completion of this unit, it is important those of you who do not have internet access at home keep track of the unit schedule and plan your schedules accordingly so that you can do your homework in the computer labs on campus. "I couldn't get on-line from home" will not be accepted as an excuse for not completing assigned work on time.
