How to Build a MOO Object
MOO objects can contain text, still images, movies, and sound. (The best objects contain a combination of all of the above.) They can also be programmed to perform specific tasks and to act in particular ways when encountered or manipulated by users in the MOO. To create a basic object, just follow the steps below:
- Open a new browser window and login to the Villa Diodati using your assigned username and password (if you login as a Guest you cannot build objects.)
- Click on the "Object" button that will appear in the top frame of your Browser window once your login is complete. A new Browser window with three frames will open.
- Click on the "Create Object" buton that appears in the top frame of the new Browser window. A list of available "Generic Objects" will appear in the left frame of your Browser window. Choose "Generic Note" from the list.
- When you choose "Generic Object" the right frame of your Browser window will ask you for a name for the note. Enter a suitable name of your choosing and hit the "Create" button.
- When you click on the "Create" button the right frame will change, letting you know that the note has been created and asking you if you want to "Edit" or "Recycle" the object. Choose the "Edit" option.
- When you choose the "Edit" option, the right frame of your Browser window will display a form that lists various configurable aspects of your object.
- To include a header image on your object click the "yes" box after the "Display Header Image" option of the form, place a complete URL for the location of the image on the World Wide Web in the "Header Image URL" space on the form, and then click on the "Save General Options" button that you will find by scrolling down the page.
- To change the text that people see when they look at your object, change the text that appears in the "Description" area of the form and then click on the "Save General Options" button that you will find by scrolling down the page.
- To include a sound or movie file in the object, enter the complete URL of the appropriate .MPEG or .WAV file where it exists on the World Wide Web in the "External Object URL" space on the form and then click on the "Save General Options" button that you will find by scrolling down the page.
- When you have finished setting the options for your object, click on the "Close" button in the top Frame of your Browser window. You will be returned to your location in the Villa Diodati.
After completing the steps above you will be holding your new object, which you can drop into a room or container, or hand to another player.
