London
- Other
Sites
|
| Like the Shelley residences, other sites of interest in
London have for the most part fallen victim to urban renewal.
Skinner Street still exists, although the Godwin address
at number 4 has disappeared. One can guess at the general
location, however, and enough period buildings remain in
the vicinity to give a sense of the architecture of the
place. |
|
|
| The
Serpentine,
where Shelley's first wife, the
unhappy Harriet
Shelley, drowned
herself,
is still a
public park.
|
|
|
| Her body was thought to have washed downstream to
the
lower reaches. |
|
|
| The site of Saint Mildred’s Church, where Mary and Shelley
wed shortly after Harriet’s death, is now occupied by an
office building. |
