Nancy Moore Goslee

Nancy Moore Goslee is an Alumni Distinguished Service Professor of English at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and currently chairs the interdisciplinary program in Women's Studies. Given her education at Smith and at Yale, finishing a Ph.D. in the late 60's, it's hardly surprising that she began her career as a formalist, though with strong interests in the relationships among the arts. She taught at Pitzer College, Claremont, for three years and has been at UT-K since then. She has published two books, Uriel's Eye: Miltonic Stationing and Statuary in Blake, Keats, and Shelley and Scott the Rhymer (1985, 1988); she has just sent in the manuscript for a facsimile edition of a Shelley draft notebook, Bodleian MS. Shelley adds. e. 12, for the Garland series of Bodleian Shelley manuscripts. She is working on a critical study of the genesis of Shelley's allegorical personifications in the material processes of his drafts (a continuation of her interests in ut pictura poesis and ekphrasis), has an article on Hemans and "red Indians" forthcoming, and is writing several papers on women poets and Scottish nationalism (an offshoot of her interest in Scott).
